Seed of Hope Project began 12 years ago as a dormitory for KIDS of refugees that live in remote mountain villages and have no access to education. Seed of Hope helps these children receive the gospel, discipleship, education, citizenship, scholarships for Christian school and higher education and teaches them Biblical values and important life skills. Seed of Hope currently has 33 students. 90% of their families are COFFEE farmers. Seed of Hope Coffee has developed strong relationships of trust and partnership with the farmers. They purchase coffee from them at a higher than fair trade price to give these families a better and more sustainable life. P-REX Coffee is the exclusive importer of these premium beans to the United States and is pleased to say that all profits return to Thailand to support our farmers and their families!
While Seed of Hope Project, Seed of Hope Coffee Co. and P-REX Coffee Co. are separate entities, they remain interconnected in purpose and vision to support the students and their families.
SEED OF HOPE PROJECT
The Seed of Hope project began in 2015 to help provide a safe place for hill tribe students to board while attending Thai public school.
Lawpa Mayoe (Seed of Hope Founder) fled the war zone of Burma when he was 13. In the struggle for his family to simply survive, the opportunity to go to school was not an option. Later, as he and his wife, Bairak, began raising their three children in a remote village, they were determined to change the narrative. Lawpa moved his family off the mountain, along with 20 other children, so they could have the opportunity to attend school and receive citizenship if necessary. There are no schools in the remote mountain villages and traveling daily to school is not an option. In the beginning, Lawpa and Bairak boarded all of the children in their home and on a small budget.
Ryan and Rebecca Stowell met Lawpa and Bairak in 2012. They quickly saw their incredible vision to improve the lives of marginalized children. In 2015 a wonderful ministry partnership was formed as the Seed of Hope Project.
The Seed of Hope Project is located at the base of the Doi Mon Lan mountains in Phrao (approximately 2 hours north of Chiang Mai). A great deal of growth and development has taken place since 2015. The Seed of Hope property includes boys' and girls' dorms, an indoor kitchen, covered dining area, a soccer field, garden and homes for the Staff. The new Education Center, which will include a library, nurse's office, study space, classrooms, art room, and a guest room, was completed in 2024!

SEED OF HOPE COFFEE CO.
As the Seed of Hope Project grew and developed, relationships with families of the children at the dorm also grew. Approximately 90% of children's families are coffee farmers in the remote mountain villages on Doi Mon Lan. For years, the families have been asking, "Will you help us find a market for our coffee?" In 2021 Seed of Hope Coffee Co. was founded with that purpose in mind. Seed of Hope Coffee Co. purchases green coffee beans at a higher than fair trade price from the Akha Hill Tribe farmers. The green beans are then sorted, roasted, packaged and prepared for distribution at the Seed of Hope Roastery. In addition to purchasing from the Akha farmers, the Roastery employs local women to help sort and bag the coffee.
Seed of Hope Coffee and P-REX Coffee each give a portion of their annual sales to the Seed of Hope Education Fund which provides scholarships for students seeking higher education, vocational training as well as counseling opportunities. This fund has already supported TEN students in receiving bachelors degrees. Those that have graduated university have received degrees in nursing, teaching, dentistry, business, English and Mandarin languages, Bible School and Culinary School. There are currently three students attending university and receiving support. The Education Fund also provides funding for vocational training scholarships to students and Staff at the Seed of Hope Project. The staff has also been able to use funds to provide various types of counseling courses for trauma therapy (specifically for children), art therapy courses as well as parenting courses. The parenting courses not only help the parents, but allow them to become certified to teach parenting classes at the Seed of Hope Project.
While the Seed of Hope Project, Seed of Hope Coffee Co. and P-REX Coffee Co. are separate entities, they remain interconnected in support of the students and their families.
